Strategy made to overcome problems
*Important meeting by United Trade Union Congress (UTUC) Mohali.
*Food vendors also expressed trust in United Trade Union.
*Hope that now our problems will be solved.
Small shopkeepers like street vendors are actually those people who provide all the necessary things for life to the common, poor and middle class people at a very reasonable profit. People who do not dare to look at big hotels, restaurants and malls, come to them and satisfy their taste of eating golgappas, tea-coffee and kulfis, where they spend their time at home. In return, these street vendors never take anyone's skin off. Reasonable prices, sweet words and something made in front of you, in which there is no hiding. From peanuts and vegetables to dal roti and parathas, they provide all these essential things to the common people in the streets.
But their own life is full of problems at every step. The United Trade Union Congress (UTUC) has taken serious note of these issues. In this regard, these people have been contacted in Mohali, Ludhiana and other places. An important district-level meeting was held by the Mohali unit of the union under the chairmanship of District President Surinder Bawa in which the problems faced by the food vendors of the Mohali area were discussed.
Several senior leaders of the union participated in this meeting, including: Mahakal Jathedar Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, Central Committee Member, Comrade Hawa Singh, National Vice President, UTUC, Karnail Singh Ikolaha, National General Secretary, All India Sanyukta Kisan Sabha, Simrandeep Singh, Central Committee Member, Revolutionary Youth Front and others also expressed their views.
These leaders highlighted in the meeting that only the unity of workers, farmers and those working in other informal sectors can protect their rights. The government should ensure a dignified life and security to these sections. This demand is also the right of these workers.
He further said that these food vendors, who are an important part of this middle class economy, are often victims of neglect, oppression and lack of basic amenities. Some key decisions were also taken for them during the meeting, in which the issue of food vendor licenses, police intervention, sudden evictions and other such actions were also discussed. To immediately address the problems like lack of separate spaces, the union will soon meet the Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Mohali and place these issues before them.
A city-wide awareness campaign will also be launched to inform the food vendors about their rights and spread awareness among the public.
Surinder Bawa said in his address that the UTUC is committed to protecting the rights of the workers at all costs and appealed to the administration to ensure legal confirmation and proper regulation of food vendors. A huge gathering was held during the meeting and Pankaj, Raju, Tun Tun Sharma, Baljinder Singh, Amit were present along with their colleagues and took a pledge to participate in the strengthening of the organization and expressed their trust in UTUC that this team has come forward to help us after understanding our pain. The entire team and its leaders were thanked, whose presence has curbed the anti-social elements and they said that in future we will not be harassed by any government official and hooligans. We have full confidence and many problems of the people were resolved on the spot through mutual talks and their complaints were resolved.
The union also appealed to the civil society, other trade unions and local residents to also play their role in this movement.
